Preparation: Preheat your oven to its lowest temperature setting, ideally 150°F.
Prepare Garlic: Separate the cloves from the heads. Place the cloves into a blender or food processor and pulse until you achieve small chunks.
Baking: Spread the garlic chunks in a single layer on a baking sheet. Place in the preheated oven and bake for 2-4 hours. The garlic is ready when it is completely dry, crisp, and snaps easily when broken.
Cooling: Allow the garlic to cool completely after baking.
Dehydrator Method:
Dehydrate: Place the garlic chunks in your dehydrator and set it to run for 6-8 hours, or until the garlic is fully dried and crisp.
Grinding: Whether you used the oven or dehydrator method, transfer the dried garlic to a spice grinder or coffee grinder. Pulse until you achieve a fine powder.
Sifting: Sift the garlic powder to ensure a fine consistency. Reserve any larger granules for future use in various dishes.
Storage:
Store your garlic powder in an airtight container, adding a teaspoon of uncooked rice to prevent clumping. Alternatively, use a glass jar with a tight-fitting lid. Properly stored, your garlic powder will stay fresh for up to 6 months.
