Ingredients:

  • 4 medium sweet potatoes, scrubbed clean

  • 2-3 tablespoons olive oil or melted butter

  • Salt and pepper, to taste

  • Optional for sweet variation: cinnamon, nutmeg, and a drizzle of maple syrup

  • Optional for savory variation: garlic powder, smoked paprika, and grated Parmesan cheese

Preparation:
  1. Preheat your air fryer to 390°F (200°C) or your oven to 425°F (220°C).

  2. Carefully slice each sweet potato at regular intervals (about 1/8 to 1/4 inch apart), stopping just before you cut all the way through. Tip: Place chopsticks or wooden spoon handles on either side of the potato while slicing to prevent cutting all the way through.

  3. Brush each potato all over with olive oil or melted butter, ensuring some gets in between the slices. Season with salt and pepper.

Air Fryer Method:
  1. Place the sweet potatoes in the air fryer basket, ensuring they're not touching.

  2. Cook for about 40-45 minutes, or until the potatoes are tender inside and crispy on the edges. Brush with more oil or butter halfway through cooking if they seem dry.

Oven Method:
  1. Place the sweet potatoes on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper or lightly greased foil.

  2. Bake for about 60 minutes, or until the potatoes are tender inside and crispy on the edges. Brush with more oil or butter halfway through if needed.

Sweet Variation:

  • Mix a little cinnamon and nutmeg with the olive oil or butter before brushing onto the potatoes. Halfway through cooking, drizzle with a bit of maple syrup for added sweetness.

Savory Variation:

  • Mix garlic powder and smoked paprika with the olive oil or butter before brushing onto the potatoes. Once cooked, sprinkle with grated Parmesan cheese and return to the air fryer or oven for a few minutes until the cheese is melted and golden.
